Class Description

A 6-Week Introduction to Pottery Ever wanted to try pottery but weren’t sure if the wheel was really for you? This six-week beginner wheel throwing class is a playful, hands-on introduction to working with clay—designed for people who are curious, ready to get messy, and excited to see what happens when they sit down at the wheel. This is a try-it, explore-it, feel-it-out kind of class. You don’t need experience, confidence, or a plan—just a willingness to show up and put your hands in the clay. What This Class Is About Over six weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing while getting a real feel for the process—from centered clay to finished, glazed pieces. We’ll focus on progress, not perfection, and on building comfort at the wheel one session at a time. What You’ll Learn Weeks 1–4: Getting Comfortable at the Wheel • How to wedge and center clay (yes—you really can learn this) • Learning the rhythm of the wheel • Making simple forms like bowls and cylinders • Understanding how clay responds to your hands Week 5: Glazing Day • Creating a simple glaze plan • Applying glazes and learning finishing techniques • Preparing pieces for their final firing Week 6: The Big Reveal • Unloading the kiln and picking up your finished pieces • Seeing your work complete and ready to use • Falling in love with what you made You’ll leave with finished pottery—and, just as importantly, a clear sense of whether pottery is something you want to keep exploring. Small Class, Real Support This class is limited to just 6 students, not 15 or 20. That means hands-on guidance, individualized help, and plenty of time at the wheel. You won’t be fighting for attention or wondering if you’re doing it “right”—you’ll be supported every step of the way. Studio Access Students receive up to 4 hours of studio access on weekends during the session, giving you extra time to practice, repeat skills, and build confidence outside of class. What’s Included • Clay • Glazes and firings • Instruction and demonstrations Students will need to purchase their own basic pottery tools. A supply list with purchase links will be emailed prior to the start of class. Who This Class Is For This class is perfect for: • Complete beginners • Anyone curious about pottery but unsure where to start • People who want a fun, low-pressure way to try the wheel • Creative folks ready to get messy and see what happens You don’t need talent or experience—just curiosity.
