Class Description
Handmade for Dinner Dishes Made for Passing, Sharing, and Gathering This six-week handbuilding class is an invitation to think beyond the place setting and into the heart of the table. Designed around timing and intention, this class guides students in creating a cohesive collection of handmade serving dishes—finished, fired, and ready to use for holiday meals and shared gatherings. Over the course of the class, students will make at least six finished serving pieces, including two serving bowls in different sizes, a small oval tray, and a large oval serving platter. Each week focuses on building one form, allowing you to work thoughtfully, build confidence at a larger scale, and develop a set of pieces that truly belong together. This is a scripted, step-by-step class, with each session building intentionally on the last. Demonstrations, timing guidance, and hands-on support are woven throughout the experience so students feel supported and successful when working with larger forms. What we’ll make: Week 1: Small oval trays Week 2: Small serving bowls Week 3: Large serving bowl Week 4: Large oval serving platter Week 5: Glazing Day • Creating a simple glaze plan • Applying glazes and learning finishing techniques • Preparing pieces for their final firing Week 6: The Big Reveal • Unloading the kiln and picking up your finished pieces • Seeing your work complete and ready to use • Falling in love with what you made The class is best suited for beginner to intermediate potters and is ideal for students who enjoy clear structure and guided learning. Class size is limited to just 6 students, allowing for individualized instruction, thoughtful feedback, and close attention to form and timing. What’s Included: • Clay • Instruction and demonstrations • Glazes and firings Students must bring their own tools. A detailed tool list with purchase links will be emailed prior to the start of class. Class cost is $450, reflecting the scale of the work and the additional materials and kiln space required for larger serving pieces. • October 19 to November 23 Mondays from 6-8:30 pm • November 3 to December 8 Tuesdays from 6-8:30 pm There is something quietly powerful about placing a handmade platter at the center of the table— about serving food from objects you shaped with your own hands.
