Class Description
Mugs, Mugs & More Mugs A handbuilt mug experience 6 weeks | $400 per student Class limited to 6 students April 17 to May 22 Fridays from 6-8:30pm There’s a reason mugs are everyone’s favorite piece of pottery. We reach for them first thing in the morning, wrap our hands around them, carry them from room to room, and often form surprisingly strong attachments to “that one perfect mug.” This four-week handbuilding class is a deep, focused exploration of what makes a mug work—and what makes it special. Each week, students will create one complete mug from start to finish, including form, handle, and thoughtful refinement. By repeating the process weekly, you’ll gain confidence, consistency, and a much stronger understanding of how small changes in form and handle design dramatically affect comfort, balance, and usability. What You’ll Do • Make one new mug each week (4 total) • Build mugs completely by hand, from slab to handle • Explore proportion, rim shape, and volume • Learn how handle placement, thickness, and curve affect function • Refine your forms through repetition and feedback This class is about learning by doing—again and again—so your hands begin to understand what your eyes already want. Who This Class Is For This class is open to beginner and intermediate potters. It’s perfect if you’re new to handbuilding and want a clear, supportive structure, or if you’ve made mugs before and want to refine your forms, handles, and overall consistency. Small Class, Big Growth Class size is limited to just 6 students, creating an intimate, high-touch learning environment. You’ll receive individualized feedback, hands-on guidance, and real one-on-one time throughout each session—something that’s essential when working on details like handles and ergonomics. Studio Time Students receive up to 4 hours of studio access on weekends during the class session. This extra time allows you to practice, refine, and sit with your work between classes—often where the biggest breakthroughs happen. Why a Mug Class? Mugs are deceptively complex. They ask more of us than almost any other form: comfort, balance, durability, and beauty all at once. This class invites you to slow down, pay attention, and fall a little bit in love with the process of making something someone will use every single day. If you’ve ever picked up a mug and thought, “Why does this one feel so good?”—this class is where you find out.
